The guy showed up an hour late, and this was after I left a message and called back and said I needed a ride. The guy explained that he had driven to Augusta, NJ, which is about 45 minutes from the auto body shop. He was rude, and cursed. He also smelled and drove like a nut! He almost got us killed when trying to change lanes! After I got to Hertz, the lady at the desk, who was dressed very shabbily to say the least, told me she didnt have a full size car for me. I told her my car was a full size and I needed and wanted a fullsize car. Suddenly she had a full size car. However, it was dirty, so they washed and vacuumed it, only to find out that after doing the paperwork, that this car needed an oil change! The next two cars after the first one, also had problems, and needed something. I agreed to wait, while an oil change was done on one of them, and after about 15 minutes, they called the manager, who told her the cars really didnt need an oil change, so they gave me a car. At this point, I had been waiting for a car for over an hour and a half! They handed me the paperwork, and the key and that was it! No information, instruction on how the car works etc. I will never go there again and will tell all of my family and friends not to either! What a crappy place!

I learned of a strange (and in ineffective) Hertz policy in the most inconvenient way possible.
I flew in to Charlotte, NC. for my sisters wedding and had a car reservation through Hertz (via HotWire). When I went to pick up my rental the cashier asked for my ID and my card. I didn't really think anything of it, so I handed them to her. After she entered some information into the system she swiped my card and told me that it was declined.
I asked what she was charging because I had already paid for my rental. She responded that there was a $200 hold that needed to be placed on my card. To which I responded of course it was rejected then I don't have that much in my account right now. Let me just move some money around and you can try again.
This was the weird part, she said that she could not. I was confused for several minuets but eventually came to learn that it is Hertz policy to not allow a card to be attempted to be swiped for 24hrs if the first swipe was rejected to help protect credit card fraud. I was in shock. I had left my second credit card at home for my girlfriend in case she needed the cash and had no other card on me.
I spoke to the general manager and even her manager (I assume regional manager?) and they told me the same thing. Even more, both of them could offer me nothing to help resolve my situation. I came up with some ideas: override the hold, wave the deposit, put me up in a hotel to wait the 24hrs so I could try again, but all were rejected and when I asked if they had any ideas to resolve this they both told me I should go somewhere else to get a car.
So that is my story this is why I'm upset.
1. It is the definition of bad customer service to tell a customer to go somewhere else. I have never head of any manager anywhere doing such a thing when the problem was clearly on there side.
2. This policy makes no sense no matter how you look at it.
Lets assume for a second that a rejected card did somehow indicate that the card was stolen all this policy does is insures that Hertz doesn't process the stolen card. The thief will then just go to the next counter an use the card there. If you really want to help prevent fraud then you hold the card and call the authorities.
But a rejected card doesn't mean it was stolen any more then accepted card means it wasn't stolen. The two don't correlate in anyway (when talking about insufficient funds). From Hertz point of view, the fact that it was reject, then I was able to contact my bank to transfer the money, and have it work afterwards is more proof that the card belongs to me then almost every other transaction where the card just goes through. The process laid out is a viable form of duel factor authentication.
3. This shows bad customer security at a corporate level.
I don't work for Hertz so I don't know but I can imagine the meeting that this policy was brought up in. Some upper management person wanted to fill in his box for 'better fraud protection' and some middle management person wanted to get some recognition with brownie points. So this financially cheep policy was proposed and accepted. Everybody wins, except the customer because it literally does nothing to prevent fraud. Even worse, no one of importance would even know there was a problem because everyone is making feel good decisions that check boxes. Once the box is checked it is 'done' all of a sudden you have the security promised by the box. Never mind that the from conception nothing of substance was done to actually check the box.
This policy is an inert and annoying example but if this is how Hertz approach customer security I would bet money that they have similarly useless policies 'protecting' much more impotent information, like credit card numbers, customer addresses and licenses, who rented what, when and where.
There is no way I will ever give Hertz any of my information so long as they are in business because I cannot trust them to keep it safe.
HERTZ SUKKS!! They pay what they want to pay you when they want to pay you! They lie about everything to all the employees all broken promises and dreams!! I hope Florida realizes what a bunch of Lying Thieves they are allowing to move into the neighborhood...
I just went to hertz and tried to pick up a car that was reserved for me by the insurance company of a high idiot who totalled my car. They had no cars. There were no cars available at any hertz location in Philadelphia. There were also no cars available at either Mount Laurel NJ location. I work an hour away from my home. I've been waiting a month for this horrible insurance company to accept fault. I finally get them to accept fault and I'm still without a car because the car rental business has no cars.... really?!?!?!

So, I reserved a minivan in Feb 2015 to be picked up in April 2015. I have been a Gold member for over 5 years and never had a problem in the past. However, this is NOT currently the case.
I got a great rate on the van and used my points to make the great rate even better. So we kept on planning our trip to our friend's wedding. Until, I check on the reservation and find out - THEY CLOSED THE PICK UP LOCATION! PERMANENTLY! AND NEVER NOTIFIED US!!!
I proceed to call the main reservation line to find out 1) Why they didn't inform us of the location closure and 2) What the heck are we going to do now???
After many many many hours ( and lots of attitude from the Hertz employees) of working with individual locations and customer services - we finally got the reservation confirmed at the new location for the same price, etc etc. (originally they wanted us to pay a couple hundred more for the new reservation!!! o.O!) A week out from our trip.
So everything's fine right? Nope. The day of the reservation THE DAY OF, I get a call from the pick-up location informing me that they did not have a van available and that they require 48 hour notice for a vehicle that large. Uh.... what?!?! I thought I had this sorted out the week before!
Apparently - the reservation didn't show up in their system until today and therefore they weren't prepared. When I informed the young girl that the reservation was actually made a week ago... she looked it over realized the mistake they made.
Then called back to say that they wouldn't be able to get the van and wanted to know if I would take a bus, sorry, suburban instead.
No. No thanks. Still trying to sort this out right now as we need to leave tomorrow for our trip...
I hate them so much right now.
I rented a car from this location for one week and the rental agreement (which I have in front of me as I type this) specified I would return the vehicle by 5 PM the Friday before a holiday weekend. I actually returned to the rental lot at 4 PM only to encounter a sign on the door saying they would close at 3 PM that Friday -- no indication of the early closing when I rented or picked up the car. After using the key drop, I called the 800 number three times; all three calls were dropped after I was referred to customer service. On the fourth try, I did reach a representative who simply reiterated the official company policy: any car returned after a location is closed will accrue rental fees until the location opens again. No connection between Hertz' central office and any of the branches, no way to "tag" the account with a note, no help or compassion from anyone with whom I spoke. All I can do, I was told, was to contact the local lot, but the local number connects directly back to the central office! I will have to visit the lot in person and hope for the best. To be fair, the local rental agent may make this right come Monday. However, I must warn all potential Hertz customers -- consider renting elsewhere, because if any problem arises you will go crazy trying to get it addressed, let alone fixed.

They have like hundreds of customer services' phone, but they never ever answered the phone after 1:00 pm. Fuck this shit
Worked for 4 short weeks as a Location manager. Walked off the job after I made two phone calls to hr, reporting cash skimming with little done. Also, there was almost no training....it's very difficult to do a job and manage people if you have no idea how to do any of your job. Was such a terrible experience, they have also lost me as a customer. I'm done, washed my hands of them.
